Indefinite article a/an

Hello! I have a question. For instance, when I say "It is a very good car", the indefinite article "a" is used only because in this sentence have a noun "car" ? Sorry if I wrote something wrong, my english is rusty. (P.s.: The answer can be in a english language, I'd appreciate it.). Thank you.

Your English is very good! :)

Yes, exactly. If you wanted to say that the car is good, you could simply say "It is very good.", without the indefinite article. It works pretty much like in Portuguese.
