Tanto "at school" quanto "in school" são usados, mas o contexto muda um pouquinho.
Quando você diz "at school", você está se referindo à localização de alguém, sobre prédio físico da escola.
Já quando você diz "in school", isso se refere geralmente a um estudante que está matriculado, indo à escola, universidade, etc.
No seu exemplo, ambos poderiam ser usados.
