Com meios de transporte públicos como ônibus, metrô, trens, usamos a preposição "on" para indicar localização (I'm on the bus); já para indicar o movimento que vamos entrar nesse meio de transporte, podemos usar "on" (I got on the bus) ou "onto" (I got onto the bus), os dois são aceitos.
Já para um carro particular ou um táxi, não usaríamos "on", mas sim "in" ou "into".
